The history
The Nyhavn (New Harbour) canal was built by the order from King Christian V in 1671-73 to allow trading access to Kongens Nytorv. For over than 120 years the canal was a thriving business community. All this came to an abrupt end with the British bombardment of 1807. All the merchants moved out, and life in the harbour has ever since been characterized by sailors, public houses, fills de joie and parties.
